Les Trois Garcons. (Shoreditch)

Once a year we like to indulge in a private dining experience. This year we chose Les Trois Garcon in Shoreditch. I would say that this is the best restaurant I have been to recently. The private dining experience was excellent. We could see into the kitchen but they could not see us. The room had a very eclectic mix of ornaments and furniture; it was a cross between a log cabin and a lovely old ship. At the end of the meal we had a tour of the wine cellar which was very interesting.

Amuse Bouche:

Onion soup.

A tasty start to our meal.

Starter:

Coquilles Saint-Jacques sur lit de moulis marine au citrus et menthe fraiche (Seared Scottish scallops on lemon, lime and mint marinated mouli, roasted cashews, kumquat puree, and crackling.'

I really liked the different textures in this starter. However, I did feel that it was sweet, due to the sweet scallops and kumquat puree. It needed more citrus to cut through the sweetness.

A view of the kitchen from the table.

Main:

Chateaubriand (500g) a partager
(Chateaubriand for two; I had broccoli, spinach and mash potato to accompany the meat.)

This by far is the best steak I have ever had. If you like steak you must go to Les Trois Garcons and try this one, you will not be disappointed. The steak was beautifully cooked and just melted in my mouth-tender, moist and rich.

Dessert:

It was a chocolately/mousse cake. Soft, rich and had crunchy pieces running throughout which gave the dessert a good texture. The raspberry coulis cut through the richness of the dessert well. This was a great way to end the meal.

Quality & Presentation of  the Food

The quality of the food is excellent, particularly the main and dessert course.  The portion sizes are very generous and I felt very full at the end-perhaps I should not have eaten 3 slices of bread, but it was delicious.

The presentation is good; not overly fussy, but everything was carefully crafted.

Service & Ambience

This was an excellent private dining experience and I would thoroughly recommend it. The waiter was very attentive. I liked that the room was in the basement of the restaurant, it certainly added to the experience as it did not feel we were in a restaurant but a beautiful, private room. I really enjoyed being close to the kitchen and seeing the chefs at work.

Value for Money

For 3 courses, an aperitif, and a couple glasses of wine the bill came to £90. I felt that the price was reasonable due to the good food, service and also the private dining experience. I would certainly return to have the steak again!
