After a wonderful experience at Le Gavroche I was excited to try another Roux restaurant.
Starter:
(Merguez sausage)
It was tasty but I was not overwhelmed by it.
Main:
(Supreme of chicken, with orzo pasta, quail egg yolks and crispy bacon.)
The orzo pasta and quails eggs was a wonderful combination. However, although the chicken was cooked well, I did not really enjoy it. The flavours did not excite me. I did not feel that the chicken, pasta and egg worked well together. Moreover, due to the dining room being very cold, the food got cold quickly and that put me off the dish.
Dessert:
(Bitter chocolate millefeuille with maple ice cream and salted pecans)
Beautiful presentation; the piping skills and attention to detail is some of the best I have seen, certainly the calibre you expect from the Roux family. The dessert was delicious- the rich chocolate and maple ice-cream was a perfect combination. I loved the different textures, the pastry, chocolate ganache, ice-cream and the salted pecans. This was the best course of the three.
My friends dessert- a crème brulee with summer fruit accompaniments. She said it was very tasty. I loved the vibrant colours.
Quality &
Presentation of the Food
The quality of the food was average to good, depending on the course. By far the best course was the dessert. I did book this as a special offer, so maybe this played a part in the quality of the food. The portion sizes were okay, I neither felt full nor hungry.
The presentation of the dessert was excellent, the other two courses were average.
Service & Ambience
The service was good. The waiting staff were very amenable when we asked to move tables as we were being blasted by the Air Con.
The dining room is beautiful. However, the Air Con needs to be turned down as the food gets cold quickly.
Value for Money
A 3 course set menu with a glass of Albert Roux champagne was £36.50- booked via Opentable. I would like to dine there again, but not on a special menu to see whether there is any difference in the quality of food.
